Mulch FAQs
Q: Do you have a minimum?
Yes, during the peak season of March to June, we do have a 20 yard minimum. Other times of the year we have a 15 yard minimum for installation. However, if you have lower yardage needs, we can arrange deliveries if you are located near our storage yard in Cherokee County.
Q: Will you help estimate projects?
Due to low margins in this industry, we cannot afford to visit each potential jobsite. If you have a large job that you believe will be greater than 40 yards, we will estimate onsite. Typically, we can determine a good ballpark estimate over the phone with you. If you ask us to install, we only charge you for the amount installed, so if its more or less, you get charged the appropriate amount.
Q: Do you have an easy formula to use for calculating amounts?
___ sq. ft. X ___ Inches deep ÷ 324 = ____ Cubic Yards.
We typically recommend 2 inches deep installation.
Q: Does mulch attract termites?
NO! Mulch does not attract termites. See here for more details.
Q: How often do you recommend reapplying mulch?
We recommend refreshing your mulch once a year even though it will last longer that. This keeps a good base layer to help control weed germination and moisture retention during the summer months and it looks better.
Q: Do you have to remove pine-straw before putting down mulch?
Not if the pine-straw has been down for 3 or 4 months. Pine-straw decomposes at such a rapid rate it does not hurt to put the mulch on top.
Q: Can we pick up mulch at your location in Canton?
Yes, but please call ahead to ensure someone is there to load you. We sell by the yard and typically a large pickup truck can hold two yards and a smaller one can hold 1 to 1.5 yards.
